Sales Funnel Stages Explained
Funnel stages are useful when they clarify what the customer needs next. They become useless when they are treated as decorative labels.
Attention
The visitor first encounters the problem, promise or brand. The job is relevance, not a full sales argument.
Consideration and capture
The prospect wants enough value or clarity to take a small next step: subscribe, view a demo, start a trial or compare options.
Decision
The offer must answer fit, price, risk, alternatives and the mechanics of taking action.
Conversion
Checkout, booking or enrollment should be clear and technically reliable.
Onboarding and follow-up
The funnel does not end at payment. Delivery, onboarding and relevant follow-up affect refunds, retention and the next purchase.
Practical rule: If a page or email does not have a clear job within the customer decision, remove it or combine it with something that does.
